Hindu Muslim marriage

by Anonymous

Hello,

I am in a 5yr relationship and my bf is a muslim, we had discussions in the earlier stages of relationship that I will not have to accept Islam and we will have a court marriage. Things took a u turn when he spoke to his parents reg the wedding. They are absolutely against it and they would omly agree if I convert to Islam.

I dont think i can take the responsibility of converting and being happy. I love him a lot and so does he.. He never forced me for conversion but their parents are the reason. He and his parents are giving me the liberty to live my life my way even after conversion and to only do this for the happiness of his parents and the community. I am still very skeptical and don't want to regret later in life.

I dont want to stretch this any further if there is no future but my heart doesn't agree and he is a very kind hearted person and I dont want to miss him.

"You gave us counseling without making either one of us feel that you were taking sides.
You always maintained your impartiality with us. You encouraged Rita to be more assertive in stating what she wanted to get from your counseling sessions, as well as what she wanted to get from the relationship.
You taught both of us better communication between ourselves, which lead to an emotional comfort level between us that didn't exist before.
You took control of the direction of the session if things were not moving along.
Thanks so much
for helping us."
